Version History
A clear look at what changed in Inkolio, from new features to everyday quality-of-life improvements.

v0.8.3 Aug 2026
This update makes vaults and folders easier to recover, gives the File Tree real folder tools, improves Canvas grouping, and smooths out a handful of drawing, startup, and note-list details.
Vault recovery
- Inkolio now handles older saved vaults more gracefully on macOS. If a vault needs renewed access, the app asks you to re-authorize it once instead of repeatedly prompting for folder permission.
- Locate Vault, Rescan, and Re-authorize make it easier to reconnect a vault that was renamed, moved, or temporarily unavailable through cloud storage.
- Reconnecting a vault now keeps the original vault identity, so you do not end up with duplicate vault entries after recovery.
- On startup, Inkolio waits for macOS folder access to finish restoring before scanning linked vault folders, while still showing your In-app Notes right away.
Folders in the File Tree
- You can now right-click folders to create child folders, or right-click the Vaults header to create a folder at the root of a linked vault.
- Folders can be moved by dragging them between In-app Notes, nested folders, and linked vaults. Inkolio handles nested contents and same-name conflicts with rename-or-merge options.
- Deleting a folder is recoverable: the folder and its notes move to Inkolio Trash first. You can restore them later or remove the physical folder through the system Trash.
- New notes default to In-app Notes, newly created folders stay selected in context, folder rows have drag handles, and empty folders remain visible.
- The File Tree now puts Recent and Favorites before In-app Notes and Vaults for quicker access.
Canvas and Drawing
- Canvas now supports right-click Group Selection. Select multiple items, name the group, and Inkolio creates a fitted group around them.
- Adding selected items to an existing Canvas group now moves them into the group and resizes the frame automatically.
- Canvas connector handles stay comfortably clickable while zooming, instead of shrinking too far as the canvas scale changes.
- Excalidraw drawings now render properly in Reading view instead of showing raw JSON or covering the drawing with a read-only notice.
- Right-click Copy to clipboard as PNG and Copy to clipboard as SVG now work in packaged macOS builds.
Cleaner note organization
- Moving App Notes into a vault now removes the original App Notes copy after the vault copy succeeds, so moved notes do not reappear in the old location.
- Collapsed note groups and expanded Burst History cards are remembered after relaunch, including in Actions views for Tasks, Links, and Mentions.
- The Markdown document filter is now simply called Notes wherever it appears.
- The manual was updated with the new folder tools, vault recovery options, Excalidraw clipboard actions, Reading view behavior, and saved panel states.
-
v0.8.2 Aug 2026
This release focuses on making Canvas, Drawing, and packaged Mac builds feel steadier: cleaner file handling, fewer layout surprises, and more reliable TestFlight and Mac App Store behavior.
Canvas and Drawing files
- New Canvas and Excalidraw notes keep the correct file type when renamed, so they reopen as visual documents instead of plain Markdown.
- Inkolio now ignores startup-only editor events on new Canvas and Drawing notes, preventing accidental early autosaves before you make a real change.
- Renamed Canvas and Drawing notes no longer split into duplicate fallback entries during background folder scans.
- Canvas and Drawing notes show clean Canvas or Drawing labels in the note list instead of raw JSON previews.
Canvas layout and selection
- Dragging to select items on a Canvas no longer highlights note text unless that note is actively being edited.
- Tidy keeps your row structure and makes small spacing improvements instead of flattening a multi-row canvas into one long line.
- Auto Layout, Organize Canvas, and Pack Canvas now preserve visual rows when notes inside groups expand or collapse.
Editor and Mac build polish
- Split view scrolling is smoother, with no sideways flicker from the Details drawer while you scroll vertically.
- Collapsible <details> sections round-trip more reliably between Rich editor and Markdown/source mode.
- The Help/manual pane no longer crashes on startup because of embedded Markdown code spans.
- Canvas and Excalidraw documents open correctly in packaged Mac App Store and TestFlight builds.
- Image drag-and-drop and selected-note deletion are more reliable in packaged macOS builds.
- The website gained a public Getting Started page before Documentation in the navigation.
-
v0.8.1 Jul 2026
This update gives you more precise display controls, fixes article filtering, and refreshes the public homepage.
- Tab titles and Left toolbar labels now have separate font-size controls in Settings.
- The editor's 3-dot menu now follows your Dropdown menus text-size setting.
- The Article filter now works independently, including in Recents, so captured articles can be shown or hidden exactly as expected.
- The homepage received a new animated pass with scroll-driven screenshot reveals and masked text motion.
- The manual was updated with the new display controls and corrected Notes/Article filter behavior.
